Via Veneto Pizzarium | 40 Slices of Pizza: Slice #20

Chris turned 40 at the end of 2025, and I wanted to do something special without throwing a big party that he wouldn’t appreciate. So I gave him what I knew he’d appreciate the most: 40 slices of pizza!

Our twentieth stop was: Via Veneto Pizzarium
511 E 900 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84105

Restaurant Location and Atmosphere

This is a rather unique dining experience in downtown SLC with fun outdoor seating. The pizza is Roman style. When we visited Italy in 2019, I ate a lot of Pasta Carbonara everywhere we went, and Chris ate mostly – you guess it – pizza. He said this place reminded him of the pizza in Rome – and that is by design.

You pay by weight, which is an odd thing for pizza. You tell them how big of a slice you want, and they cut it, weight it, and cook it for you. It’s fun because you can try a bit of however many pizzas you want, but I wish they had a better guess for pricing. If you say something like “can you give me $3 of this slice” they’ll say they don’t know. So basically you say how much you want, they weigh it, and if it’s more than you want to spend, they’ll cut a smaller piece and put what you don’t get back.

Also, they don’t have utensils, and you have to ask for napkins.

The Pizza

We ended up trying a bit of almost everything they had on display. Chris really liked the sauce and the dough, and in particular the crunchiness of the dough.

Here’s what we tried:

  • Prosciutto e Carciofi (prosciutto and artichokes)
  • Verona (sausage, radicchio, and sundried tomatoes)
  • Crema di Carciofi, Lonza di Maiale (a sort of pizza sandwich with salad and pork loin)
  • Pear Gorgonzola (a sweeter, dessert-like pizza)
  • Salomino Picante (spicy sausage)
  • Prosciutto, Fungi, e Salomino (spicy sausage, mushroom, and prosciutto)
  • Quattro Formagi (Four cheese)

My favorite was the Verona – it had very strong flavors. Chris loved the Prosciutto, Fungi, e Salomino. He said he would not likely get the Salomino Picante again just because despite the cured salami being very good, it was hard to bite into.

Overall Value

This is not a great place for kids, and it ended up being very expensive. We ended up spending more than $55, and we were still hungry afterwards. We actually ended up getting another pizza from another place to fill us up better.

That said, it’s a unique experience, with very high quality ingredients. Come here on someone else’s dime.

The Score

Chris rated his pizza a 7.8, a pretty decent score.
